This type of foundation is separate in -depth supports in the form of pillars. Compared to other types of foundation, has the smallest area of support. It is more economical in labor intensity and consumption of materials. The columnar foundation is most effective for use on heaving soils (such soils can expand in volume when freezing), as well as for houses with light walls – frame, wooden, thyroid gland. It is also possible to use it on soils predisposed to horizontal shifts, but only when connecting the pillars with a grillage.

1. The support pillars are erected at the corners of the building, at the intersections of the walls (internal and external), in the intervals between them, as well as under the loaded structures of the building.
2. The depth of the foundation is about two meters, while the upper ends of the pillars (heads) should be at the same height from the ground level (usually 40-50 cm).
3. The diameter of the support pillars can be different, but not less than 15 cm.
4. Pillars of various materials are used: reinforced concrete, brick, wooden, from masonry.
The columnar foundation is the simplicity of construction. It can be done with one with your own hands.
