Carrying wall: how to find out

  • December 19, 2017

If you plan to carry out a redevelopment in the apartment, then it will be not possible for you to find out which walls can be broken and which ones do not.

The most important walls in the room are supporting walls. These are those walls that take on the entire severity of the building and, eagerly, hold it. Therefore, if the carrier wall is broken, then the building faces a complete crash.

Want to repair your apartment with your own hands, but do not know where to start? We advise you to visit our construction portal and we find out useful information about repair.

How to recognize the carrier wall? First, in thickness. The supporting wall has a thickness of at least 140mm, while ordinary wall partitions vary from 80mm to 120mm in thickness. These dimensions belong to panel houses. In houses from brick, the supporting wall will have a thickness of about 250mm. And it is clear that breaking external bearing walls is completely unacceptable.

Secondly, the carrier wall is recognized by the material from which it is made. As a rule, reinforced concrete slabs are used for loading walls of panel houses, while ordinary wall partitions in such houses are made of gypsum concrete. In brick houses, the supporting wall is made of brick, however, just like a wall partition (here is the difference in thickness).

And thirdly, the employees of the BTI will help you to allocate and determine all the load -bearing walls, without which you cannot make legal redevelopment (this type of work requires a legitimate permission of BTI).
